A witchcraft magazine you wouldn’t be afraid to read on the tube

Sabat Magazine fuses Witchcraft and feminism, ancient archetypes and instant art.
Conceived by founder and editor Elisabeth Krohn and designed in close collaboration with Cleber de Campos, Sabat reimagines occult traditions for a new generation. Drawing on the energy of 90s pop-culture witches, the aesthetics of Tumblr-era image-makers, and the intellectual resurgence of feminist spirituality, Sabat creates a micro-cosmos where ancient ritual meets the instant nature of digital culture. The design rejects dusty, stereotypical depictions of witchcraft and instead embraces a refined, monochrome visual world punctuated by moody photography, and unexpected graphic moments. Each issue –Maiden, Mother and Crone – explores a phase of the Neo-Pagan Triple Goddess, framing womanhood as a cycle of empowerment, transformation and self-knowledge.
The art direction blends darkness and luminosity. Radim Pesko’s Larish Alte forms the backbone of the typographic system, selected for its gothic minimalism and historical resonance with medieval witch trials. It is paired with Albertus and Virus VujaDe to add calligraphic and esoteric accents. Photography avoids cliché, focusing instead on stylish atmospheres, symbolic gestures and contemporary interpretations of ritual. Inserts, hidden messages and tactile printing techniques deepen reader engagement, turning the magazine into a haptic experience as much as a conceptual one.
Sabat’s collaborative nature – bringing together writers, artists, photographers and witches – mirrors the community it documents: a vibrant, feminist network using witchcraft as a lens for autonomy, resistance and spiritual growth. In a landscape where indie magazines often fade quickly, Sabat stands out as a fully realised universe, a publication that is both culturally resonant and visually spellbinding.
